| It was yet another day in the cold and barren wastelands of Hyougagakure. The weather really never affected Karei as much as it should have, though her persona matched the output of mother nature to a more keen and refined quality. Her personality was that of a cold and ruthless demeanor, whereas the disease and death which can be the cause of harsh winter weathers can deliver blows and kill as easily as a knife. Following up with the desire to perform another job for her village, she walked once more to the small building guarded by two shinobi, the mid way weather was blowing quite harshly, as such was the inevitable result of a falling sun and less warmth being distributed from the clouds above. Shadows filled the village, peaking the curiosity of the weak minded and afraid. Children scurried into their homes, trying to make it in time for curfew, parents shouting in the distance for them to come home. Their voices echoed in the brevetting mind of Sylvia as she tried to process the direction in which they were coming from. However, ignoring their pleas for their children to return, she was unexpectedly stopped by an approaching Jounin. Greeting her, he bowed. "Sylvia. Your services are requested." Gladly obliging, she replied with grace. "Yes sir. What is the matter at hand which needs my attention?" He'd smile, briefly putting his head down and lifting it back to meet the curious gaze of Karei. "Officials say its your turn for wall duty." She'd laugh and sigh at the same time. Guard duty.. What a bore. She figured it wouldn't be all bad, considering there should be another shinobi assisting her at the village gates. She nodded in agreement, and with that, the Jounin scurried off to his home. What a relief, for him, he could spend the night staying home with his family or friends. Sylvia, however, had more important matters to attend to. Jumping from iceberg to snow-covered mounts and back, she released one last breath, leaping from the ground to a roof about one-hundred feet from the gates. Looking at it, she could tell she was close. And it was about time. From where she was, it probably would have taken the average ninja at a lower rank about fifteen minutes to reach the distance she was at as it stood. No matter, she continued forth, almost slipping due to the icy veins which covered the rooftops of Hyougagakure. Soon enough, night fell as she reached the gates, walking amongst the rocky formation until she landed in a small pit, a lookout bridge of sorts. Awaiting the arrival of another shinobi, which was presumably the level of Chunin, she began her patrol, walking.. Walking.. More walking. Scouting.. Scouting.. And even more scouting and walking. It got boring extremely quickly, and this ninja had not shown up. Recording a report of it in her log, she was sure the other shinobi who was meant to be on duty and assisting her would have been getting in trouble. She never meant to be a snitch, though things like guarding the village gates were a matter of dire importance. Without someone being there to watch for possible invaders or trespassers, even ninja who were looking to defect from the village, turmoil could easily follow in its inevitable wake. She took pride in defending her village, even if a fight wasn't the outcome of her patrol. Sylvia leaned back, a wooden chair adorned with symbols of Hyougagakure's royal palace emblem creaked as she affixed her position. Staring at the sky, she gazed in wonder at the sheer beauty of the heavens above, clouds passed and momentarily blocked out the gorgeous moonlight enigma which would shine light across the fields of ice before her. With such a gander, one could probably see the ice graveyard from this position, as the gates granted miles of sight advantages to those whom were atop it. Upon her moments of relaxation, she became plagued by an unexpected creature of small stature. Insects. Blah! She hated bugs, but they were certainly effective at annoying the living hell out of anyone or anything they flew around. Smacking away at the air, she looked like a mad woman for any eyes which noticed her presence. Sighing, she decided to stand up, smacking an insect out of the air and onto the ground before stepping on it and twisting her heel. "Damn bugs.." She'd murmur. Guard duty sucked, though it was something that was completely and utterly necessary. The other Chunin shinobi had seemed to not realize the importance in this job as Sylvia had. Regardless, she continued forth with her duties. During the course of her standing atop the gates, she heard a grunting sound not far off and it sounded like an angry pig or a wild elephant who hadn't eaten for days. She was unsure of the source, so she trailed from her position and leaned over the slightly crumbling edges of the wall she now stood on. Closing in on the distance of the creature, she noticed that it was fairly large, about the size of an abnormal, genetically enhanced pig, but with tusks curved and meant for crushing, rending or tearing its food before it would eat and devour its prey. She thought over the possibility of stopping or killing it, concerned with the safety of wandering civilians who couldn't defend themselves against a creature of such a size and power level. Finally coming to a decision, she lept from the gate and immediately discerned the location of the boar, she lept forth, quickly grappling the massive tusks of the creature, catching it off guard. Tugging and swinging away with its head, it attempted to shake off the powerful grip of the human puppet, Sylvia, and with that, she wrestled the beast to the ground, quickly delivering a rib-shattering kick to its underside and making it slide back a few feet. Taking a kunai out, she pierced its face while it was stunned and unable to move, killing the beast as humanly as possible. "This would make a good dinner while I'm out here.." She'd say, laughing. Picking the boar up, she lept atop the gates once more, this time, starting a fire pit. It was time for some ribs! |
