Bloodline Ability: Members of the Hoshigake clan are born with fish-like characteristics, including partially functioning gills, allowing them to remain underwater for twice as long as a normal shinobi before drowning. The prolonged, steady exposure to natural chakra that caused their physical mutation has also afforded Hoshigaki clansmen abnormally large chakra reserves, resulting in them starting with 20 more chakra than normal. Their natural affinity to Suiton has also increased their inherent aptitude for moulding chakra of that element to unrivalled heights, resulting in suiton jutsu being used by members of the Hoshigaki clan to be increased by one rank in power (i.e. A C-Rank jutsu would hit as if it were a B-Rank). This is power only, not range and such.

Location: Shippuugakure No Sato

Clan History: One of the very few clans that are native to the island that is home to Shippuugakure, the Hoshigaki clan’s inhabitance of the region easily predates the shinobi village. Before joining the ranks of the shinobi world, the Hoshigake lived as a tribal clan, using their apex mobility and hunting skills to survive as predators of the surrounding waters. When Shippuugakure was founded, members of the tribe that would come to be known as the Hoshigake clan were actively recruited by representatives of the village who saw their intimate knowledge of the environment, predatory disposition, and unique natural abilities to be ideal for the role of a shinobi. Although most were hesitant to ally themselves with the newly created existence of the Village Hidden in the Hurricanes, the Hoshigaki eventually joined the village, learning the secrets of chakra and jutsu to strengthen themselves. Over time, the Hoshigake clan members would master the use of their unnaturally large chakra stores, many rising to the status of elite shinobi within Shippuugakure and beyond.

It did not take long to distinguish themselves from the population of Shippuugakure, both metaphoricly and literally. Their physcial appearance normally had numerous fish-like qualities, including but not limited to: Fins, partial gills, webbed feet and hands, small tail fins, sharp teeth, and, most commonly blue/gray-tinted skin. Not to mention, they had abnormally large chakra pools, more so then the normal shinobi. While it is currently unknown just how did they gain this unique appearance, recent studies have suggested that the Hoshigaki, at one point in their early history, came into contact with Senjutsu chakra. The most accepted theory is that, the ancestors of the Hoshigaki, the original hunting tribes of the Village Hidden in the Hurricanes, possessed the ability to passively absorb Senjutsu chakra from their environment in extremely small quantities. This slow, but constant, exposure to natural chakra would be the source of the clan’s unique and permanent animal-like qualities as well as the Hoshigaki clan’s abnormally large chakra reserves.
