The islands in Ocean Country have been celebrating the arrival of the next Umikage, Saizo. The long bridge leading to SHIPPUUGAKURE NO SATO has been closed for outsiders because they wish to celebrate this moment with Ocean Country natives only.
As usual, the Storm Country has been hosting the Asgard Games to welcome their Kanetsukage, Cornelia. It's a double special occasion because Cornelia is also the first female Kanetsukage. She has been picked for her courage, loyalty and outstanding power by the BOUFUUGAKURE NO SATO elders.
Not only that, but the Cherry Blossom Country has become relieved as well. It seems that everyone is slowly picking up after the war now. KUSAMURAGAKURE NO SATO proudly presented their new Sakurakage, Altair.
TSUKIGAKURE NO SATO is still thriving on the merchants coming in and out. They have not experienced anything special lately. Their wealth has remained the same as they were not forced to invest into shinobi unlike the others.
On the cold isles of the Blizzard Country, HYOUGAGAKURE NO SATO has still refused to create a free traveling policy. Some habits never change. To protect their traditions, they have even warned outsiders to not interfere with their matters.
Now that everyone is picking up again, who will come out on top?

Subject: Sashikami Denrei Sat Jan 03, 2015 7:59 pm
First Name: Denrei Last Name: Sashikami Alias: The Mad Artist of Boufuugakure
Gender: 27 Age: Male Height: 1.77 meters or 5,10 ft Weight: 70 kilograms or 156,5 lbs Birthday: September the 15th Sexuality: Straight Relationships: N/A
Personality: Members of the Sashikami clan have always been known as eccentric individuals, and Denrei is no exception. Typically displaying a laid-back and mellow disposition, one quickly gets the idea that Denrei isn’t completely there, and that part of his mind is in a different place entirely. One moment he can say something that makes sense given the respective situation, whereas his next few sentences might be something completely more outlandish. The truth about Denrei is that his mind functions in ways that are different from most people. He has a very alien morality; a nihilist who believes that life holds no true purpose but who greatly values moments of artistic, aesthetic or emotional extremes. He is personally aware that his way of reasoning and personal philosophies are different from most people, and due to his keen intellect he is capable of effectively masking his abstract personality for prolonged periods of time if he chooses to do so. While this knowledge combined with his dry wit allows him to fit in reasonably well with society if his purpose is to do so, part of him enjoys the confusion his true and uninhibited self leaves in other people.
An intelligent combatant, Denrei is able to formulate cunning strategies utilizing his kekkei genkai along with several other aspects of shinobi combat. An artist who takes immense pride in his creations, he has a habit of toying with his opponents to ensure they get a good last look at his art before he kills them. He is, however, clever enough to realize when he is facing a powerful opponent, and will fight more seriously and pragmatically should his enemy prove himself a threat.
Denrei feels emotionally detached from the material world, viewing himself as an observer and an artist with the world as his canvas. He is aware that his actions influence other people, and interacts with them more out of curiosity about where these interactions may lead rather than any particular goal. That being said, he possesses a child-like curiosity about the world and its denizens. His emotional detachment does render him capable of great and sometimes unprovoked cruelty, which combined with his typically jovial and friendly demeanour makes him all the more dangerous and unpredictable. He is the type of person that can inflict depraved acts on other people while previously displaying zero hostility and with little regard for the consequences.
Denrei holds fellow artists and philosophers in high esteem, and can respect those with conflicting ideas of art. He also respects individuals with unshakable conviction that stick to their path no matter what. He is a man that enjoys the luxuries of life such as good food and drinks, attractive females and quality tobacco, and can frequently be seen smoking a pipe.
Likes:
Art: As a shinobi from a clan of artists, it is no surprise that Denrei is a huge art lover. While he considers his own techniques art, he can appreciate other works of arts as well.
Salmon: Denrei is a person who loves good food. And while he can enjoy most types of food, his absolute favorite dish is salmon. Especially oven-baked salmon can get his mouth watering just by the scent.
Horror stories: Despite some people considering it a lesser form of art, Denrei loves scary stories. He will freely admit that most of them lack artistic value, and jokingly refer to it as a "guilty pleasure" of his.
Strong-willed individuals: Denrei can greatly respect strong-willed individuals. The world is filled with cowards and hypocrits, but there are only few people who can truly stick to their paths even when faced with major opposition.
Pretty women: Denrei is like any man in this regard. While somewhat perverted, he is generally pleasant towards women (as he is towards most people, behavior-wise). This doesn't mean he won't hurt enemy kunoichi; he believes discriminating based on gender is bullshit, and this extends to the battlefield.
Tobacco: Denrei loves quality tobacco, and always has a pipe with him. Whenever visiting a new place, he will often try to find out if there are any local specialties that he can try.
Sake: Denrei enjoys sake, both the taste as well as the effects it has.
Dislikes:
Being disturbed while drawing: When Denrei stars drawing outside of combat, be it as a leisure activity or in order to design new jutsu, his attention is completely captivated by it. Roughly disturbing him from this process will guarentee his anger. This somewhat extends to the battlefield; while he pays attention to his surroundings he still feels miffed whenever he is interrupted drawing a jutsu.
Hypocrites: The world is full of them, and Denrei despises them. He believes that those who easily go back on their word are not worth existing.
The color orange: Denrei considers it an ungraceful and artless color. No logical reason exists for this; its just his taste.
Beets: His least favourite food. He never liked it, and despite attempts by his parents to get him to like the food, till this day he refuses to eat them.
Taijutsu: He's never really been good at it, and he avoids it whenever he can. A long-range combatant, he prefers to stay well out of taijutsu range.
Motivation: A fame-seeker,Denrei wishes to build a reputation for his art.
Fears: Interestingly, Denrei’s biggest fear seems to be the idea of emotional attachment to the world. While this is an abstract concept to him, the idea of feeling genuine sorrow over the loss of a friend or family member terrifies him as he has seen people suffer from such feelings many times before.
Sashikami Clan
Bloodline Name: Sumiton – Ink Release
Bloodline Ability:
By fusing Yoton and Inton , the Sashikami Clan’s Kekkei Genkai allows them utilize Onmyoton to create special, chakra-infused ink. This ink can be used to create a wide range of drawings on scroll, bits of paper or any suitable surface. Once activated, these drawings will come to life, becoming solid and useable for combat purposes. Arguably one of the most versatile Kekkei Genkai, the hardness as well as behaviour (or lack thereof) of each painting is defined by the design of the individual jutsu. Some paintings are capable of acting on their own, in which cases their actions and the amount of individual thought one can display is once again based on the individual technique. While there are many types of drawings, there are several “families” of drawings that are considered basic techniques for each clansman. Each “family” represents a certain group of paintings of comparable power, hardness and behaviour.
Sumiton can also be combined with Fuuinjutsu, providing many varieties with individual techniques. The most well-known example of this is the Sealing Technique: Tiger Vision Staring Bullet, which creates a painted tiger that grabs an incapacitated foe and drags them back into the painting, sealing them within.
Location: Boufuugakure no Sato
Clan History:
The Sashikami were one of the founding clans of Boufuugakure, and have always been regarded as mysterious and eccentric. Much of the villages’ artistic and cultural growth comes from this clan, and they have always considered themselves part of the cultural elite of Boufuu. However, whereas their unique fighting style and knowledge of Fuuinjutsu have made them a well-respected clan, the village has always been somewhat wary and mistrusting of the eccentric and sometimes unpredictable personalities that individual clansmen are sometimes known to display. Such was the case of the mad artist Sashikami Hamachi, a powerful kunoichi who suddenly went insane and attempted to destroy Boufuugakure because she considered the sight of a ruined village to be “aesthetically pleasing and tragic in an artful way” until the then ruling Kanetsukage killed her. Ever since then, the clan has been on strict watch, and the village is always wary of when another particularly erratic personality emerges from the clan.
History: History:
Spoiler:
Birth and Childhood
Eccentric from birth, Denrei grew up in the artist clan of Sashikami. A group of open-minded and progressive thinkers, Denrei was given plenty of space to develop himself as an individual. Sashikami believed that a clansman’s art was a manifestation of their true self, and it was part of their clan’s culture to discover and develop ones true self. As a young child, Denrei was already a highly curious individual, often getting himself into trouble due to his inquisitive and inventive nature. He would often find himself lost because he explored too much, stuck in places his parents needed to get him out of and knew more than he was supposed to know due to his curious nature.
Needless to say, the space his parents gave Denrei for personal development meant that unlike shinobi from more disciplined clans, Denrei was never forced to grow up faster than he needed to. His peers in the academy considered him childish and naive, and while he was never outright bullied (his natural charm prevented him from becoming a complete social outcast) he was always regarded as an eccentric, attributes that were regarded as being due to his clan.
Difference
Both in school and at home, Denrei revealed himself to be a prodigy of the arts of his clan. His techniques were considered advanced well beyond his years, both aesthetically and in terms of power. Because of this, he was praised and encouraged by his clan, and their pride in little Denrei made them blind for the dark traits that would emerge later.
Graduating from the academy when he was 12, Denrei was placed under the tutelage of the jounin Hatsuma Kin. Kin was a Fuuinjutsu expert as well as a highly knowledgeable shinobi, and her other two students were the taijutsu expert Habane Mokurou and the Genjutsu-using kunoichi Daida Kina. The three genin formed a highly effective team, with Mokurou’s taijutsu prowess allowed him to keep enemies at bay while Kina and Denrei could use long-ranged attacks to finish them off. Denrei’s abilities grew quickly under Kin’s guidance, in no small amount due to her sharing some of her Fuuinjutsu knowledge with the genin. As their missions became more serious, however, Kin began noticing disturbing traits in Denrei. He found killing very easily. Too easy as a matter of fact. Over several missions that had the team deal with minor threats such as bandits or low-level missing-nin, she began to notice Denrei’s eyes flare at the prospect of another chance to use his art for the act of spilling blood, or fill with disappointment whenever a wanted criminal would choose to come along peacefully. While she was aware that the ability to take a life was an important trait for a shinobi, she was concerned about the pleasure he seemed to take in it.
This reached its peak when, during a mission, he casually suggested using Mokurou as a sacrificial pawn. Despite Denrei’s eccentric nature, the trio of Genin had become good friends, or so they thought. When Kin voiced her concern with the Sashikami clan, her pleas seemed to fall on deaf ears. The clan was far too proud of Denrei, and mistook his tendencies for being a shinobi capable of the required ruthlessness. When the chuunin exams neared, Kin considered not enlisting Denrei because she was afraid, but the Sashikami clan complaining with the village council resulted in her enlisting the full team anyway in fear of negative consequences. He was promoted to chuunin at age 15.
Over his years as a chuunin, Denrei grew in skill and knowledge. Realizing his old genin friends and mentor seemed to shun him, he realized he was different. By observing the way ordinary people communicated and grew attached to one another, he became better at hiding his personality behind a mask of affability and dry wit. When leading teams he expressed concerns about his teammates and tried to get them all out alive not because he cared, but because he realized that it was what people expected of him.
Strangely enough, his abilities both in terms of jutsu and art, seemed to suffer. It was as if he had hit a writer’s block; the life of a “normal” person, even a shinobi, seemed so dull and uninspiring.
Loyalties Tested
One particular mission had a small group of chuunin and special jounin, led by a single jounin captain, infiltrate an enemy country. Boufuu had been at war with this country for quite some time, and Denrei’s teammates were filled with grudge towards the country for all the Boufuu-nin they had killed. Denrei, aged 21 and by then a special jounin, was emotionally detached, and because of this realized that both countries had suffered heavily because of the war, and that the enemy felt the same about Boufuu as Boufuu felt about them. To “normal” people it seemed logical, yet to Denrei, an apathetic observer, it made no sense. If people hated war, and both sides of the conflict hated it, then why did war exist? Moreover, how could shinobi from one side feel rage and blame the shinobi from the other side when they knew they had done the exact same thing?
Denrei finished the mission successfully and returned to Boufuu after a year. However, his loyalty was being tested. He had previously remained loyal to Boufuu because it was what people expected of him, but if people were capable of such foolishness maybe their expectations weren’t really worth considering. While on the outside Denrei remained the same laid-back, jovial, eccentric figure, on the inside something was stewing. And it wasn’t any good.
Denrei was promoted to jounin at the age of 24.
A Dark Secret:
Deciding people were not as good as they seemed, Denrei began focussing completely on his art. He still performed whatever mission the village gave him, but became reclusive outside of it. He became a very famous shinobi from Boufuu who was known to carry out his missions with deadly efficiency. Unbeknownst to him, Denrei had already attracted the attention of some shady figures who, at that point, regarded him more as a potential threat than a potential ally. But all that would change.
In order to perfect his art, he had began doing something he knew Boufuu could never find out. Part of what made his art so beautiful, so worthwhile, was the awe it evoked in people, and the shock and terror of someone being killed by it. He began kidnapping people from the settlements surrounding Boufuu to use as tests for his techniques. Later, he moved on to full-fledged shinobi that could put up a fight against his techniques in order to perfect their efficiency.
One would assume that a village filled with shinobi wasn’t the easiest place to keep a serial killing going without getting caught. It wasn’t. One day, Denrei was caught. As the shinobi snuck into a home in Boufuu, he was ambushed by a group of shinobi. Their looks of steely determination changed into looks of horror as they saw just who had been terrorizing the villages. Denrei recognized most of them. Friends, cousins, acquaintances. And coincidentally the Sashikami clans head was also there to personally catch the vicious killer.
The clan head. Denrei’s father.
“My son..”, the old man stammered.
“Father..”, Denrei said, at a loss of words.
“What have you done?!”
“I.... I....”
While he was arrested, the one thing that shocked Denrei the most, what had left him completely speechless, is how he felt absolutely nothing at all. For the first time, comparing the looks of anguish, despair, hatred and anger on the faces of his friends and family, on the face of his father, to his own blankness, he truly realized how different he truly was.
A New Path
Since Denrei had surrendered, knowing that fighting such a large number of jounin could only lead to his death, he was imprisoned. A seal was placed on him suppressing his chakra in order to keep him from performing jutsu, and he was sent to a high-security prison on the outskirts of the Steam Country. There he stayed for three years, until something unexpected happened.
One night, he woke up to find the door to his cell wide open. It was dark, but a distant chill beckoned him outside. On his way, he came across corpses of guards littered across the halls of the prison. When he finally arrived at the front door, the massive gate slightly ajar, he stepped outside into the cool air. A person in a dark cloak was waiting for him. The forces that had once deemed him a potential obstacle had heard of his crimes, and had decided to extend Denrei an invitation..

Made the edits. As for the rank thing; the thread you linked to is locked. I did notice several other characters getting approved with higher ranks, even after the announcement was made that the thread was locked, so I'm rather confused about this.

The Rank-Freeze was announced & removed on December 13th, our apologies for not unlocking the Rank-up thread(The announcement was recently moved to archives in the Rules & Announcement area). I will unlock the thread now.
As for those people being approved for their ranks- those were Ouroboros members & do not belong within the village system, so they didn't have to apply in the Higher Rank thread because ALL Ouroboros are Jounin. Hope that cleared your confusion.
