Mission Title: Catch that cat!
Difficulty: D
Location: -set-
Reward: 20,000 ryo
Objective: It seems that a little noble girl, by the name of Kimi, has lost her oh-so-sweet Mister snugglywugglycuddlypoofy-kins. The long haired cat has been spotted across the village, sighted by multiple people. Her parents have posted a nice reward for bringing the cat back.
One thing. The cat is an escape artist. No matter your rank he will escape from you at least twice, clawing your arms and shoulders up getting away. The second time he escapes he will flee up a rather tall acorn tree, taking pleasure in knocking the acorns off onto your face and head. After a few minutes the cat will realise that he is stuck in the tree, and you'll have to get him back down.
If the feline is harmed in anyway you have failed the mission, and you will not get your pay.
Shortly after finishing the academy Sakumo Nakajima one of the many new genin of the village were all tasked with individual missions to build up their credibility to both the village and their peers who if needed be could look through the missions they had taken on and accomplished. Sakumo wasn’t like others in which they would complain about the type mission at all. He came from practically nothing and always tried to welcome anything that came his way. Looking over the objective and paying close attention to the key elements of the cat having the skills to escape quite well as well having claws.
“Hmmm.” Sakumo mumbles as he keeps this in mind of it being very important for the noble girl. A simple nod on his part was given to his seniors as he would make it an upmost important to not harm this feline and be extra careful to watch what he attempts to try.
Reading over the clues, Sakumo goes back to where the cat was last spotted before he even searched further out in other areas. Asking around as this would be the only real moment again that anyone would catch Sakumo even speak up. “Have you seen this cat?” Holding a small self drawn picture that was put forth over details he was given. Sakumo had tried to at least ask the locals within the village of any new whereabouts to help pinpoint new information on tracking the cat. What seemed like hours had Sakumo come to think this cat posed more of a problem to just find it than actually chase it down.
When it looked as if all was lost and sitting beside a nearby ramen shop, Sakumo looked across the ways not realizing anything in particular spotted the cat jumping from one building down to the floor with not a care in the world to bother it.
“What the hell…It’s that cat,” Sakumo holds up the self drawn photo to his eyes and then again looks at the cat and back again to go over what the drawing is showing versus the actual cat. Knowing early on that this cat is no moron and the slightest indication that it is being followed or otherwise trying to be caught then the cat will make great haste in getting away like it could. Sakumo has already mapped out various scenarios and no matter how much he wraps his possibilities around this little dilemma it will always go in the same manner. He has no need to try and plan the best measures to capture it, but the proper method to at least keep up with it long enough to grab it without hurting or worse. Following the cat he makes his movement’s very suttle as to at least attempt to make it as if he was merely walking in the direction with no particular manner to grab the cat. The cat kept looking back as well all around to observe everyone and everything in its surroundings. Going about his business the cat took to the nearest wall which connected from one market toward another. Moving with such grace it almost gave off idea that the animal walks on a cloud. Such a smooth transition from each step it takes.
“Now that is the ideal way to move, such beauty in each of its steps,” Sakumo thought to himself as he kept on following it only a few short lengths behind its position. Each new step brought forth him closer to it but not without having to do something different each time. From engaging with a random stranger to attempt to create a distraction so the cat wouldn’t have any need to think of being tailed. Sometimes Sakumo had to resort to complete and utter stupidity of dancing around and creating a show for others to direct their attention at him long enough for the cat to carry on with its business. The random acts Sakumo had gone through seem both goofy and quite clever at the same time.
As it kept going on for what had felt like a few hours Sakumo was nearly out of ideas when he could feel that if he just tried he could grab the cat quickly and in one complete movement. Feeling his surprise attack would throw the cat through a loop of not expecting a thing. Following much more closely this time and now with the sure intention of grabbing it no matter what as play time is over. Sakumo reaches out forth to get the cat as the wall is not too high above his own arm lengths but just high enough to appear taller than most. Almost anticipating anything the cat quickly jumps above onto a much higher roof. Looking down at Sakumo it simply rolls its eyes and casually continues strolling away.
“Tch…” A small grunt sound escapes his mouth as he thought it would be just that simple and realizing as well forgetting that if it were that simple than everyone would accomplish this in a few minutes or more. Having to bite his lip so that he doesn’t get any more upset than he already gotten. “Relax We got this,” Sakumo had said from within to try and calm his nerves just a tad bit and try this once again. With an easy pull up onto the fence then up and onto the nearby roof that takes put a simple step up onto it. Easily Sakumo can spot the cat acting like it is untouchable and the distance from it is only a couple steps. Sakumo jumps at this chance to grab the cat expecting to get close enough knowing that his arm length alone would provide the extra needed gap to close. A loud thud hits the top of the roof as the local store was in fact a fisherman’s market. Walking out to see what happened and looking up, the local manager shouts at Sakumo laying face down with his arms covered over what he thinks is the cat. ,”
“Hey you, what the hell are you doing? This is my store,”Smiling and embarrassed of his actions looks down and kindly waves as a sign his apologies for all the noise and rest assures the store manager that he is catching a lost cat that he might have gotten. Looking down at his arms as he gradually opens them up to see nothing and not surprised. Shaking his head in disappointment and slowly gets to his feet and bows toward the store manager as he is once again sorry for the trouble he’s caused him. . Continuing on Sakumo looks again to see that the cat has easily played him for a bigger fool than ever and looks back at his direction and easily voices his own sound effect.
“Meow” said the cat who is doing it either to upset or edge Sakumo to realize that this is not a easy task.
“Crap I guess that is strike one for me,” Sakumo once again raced toward the cat now with no more reasons to be all secretive now that the cat is out of the bag so to speak. He quickly races forth at the cat with every intention to grab this thing. And so the chase is on. Racing across every building of small and semi-large as the cat seems to be just a quick in every step it takes more than Sakumo. Being that the cat is smaller and much more agile and lighter than Sakumo, most will never know its presence but with Sakumo having a larger body frame and holds more mass. His steps and notability are easily felt and heard. Realizing that he might not ever catch the cat with such a direct style as out maneuvering it completely and quite possibly he’ll have to start to use what he has learned in the academy. Dropping back and acting like a fool, Sakumo falls off the last roof and down toward the ground below.
“It’s worth a shot,” Sakumo thought as he felt now that the cat has taken a liking for him since well it seems to enjoy playing with all that jumping an obstacle course work through the village of chasing. Doing this could either help him or at least close a gap that seems quite far with each new breath he takes in. Looking back the cat quickly notices that it was no longer being followed continues on with its mindless continued run. Sakumo doesn’t think the cat has fell for it but gives it a few more minutes before looking to see. Using this valuable time he thinks of which jutsu to use the next time he gets within range. He doesn’t have a whole lot of choices but still knowing only the three he can’t really be too sure what is the first choice to use.
Bringing his hands together, Sakumo had decided which jutsu to use and knowing he has done this only a few times in class but performed the well enough to graduate has decided that its worth a shot. Focusing enough chakra together and looking for what to transform into of equal size and proportion to the best that he could see around his visual area. And with a poof of white smoke Sakumo transform into a nearby broken wooden beam that is left posted up behind one of the markets where he fell down just a few moments ago. Making its way back and jumping down to where Sakumo is at, but quite hidden and disguised as a broken wooden beam. The cat has no idea that Sakumo is within close proximity more so this time then the last time. Watching and waiting Sakumo doesn’t quite know how long he can maintain this jutsu and does his best to focus clearly on that. Looking around and pacing back and forth. The cat seems to have spotted a trashcan and pieces of dead fish inside it.
“I have to give it a shot or I might miss this opportunity,” Sakumo thought to himself as he released the jutsu and in a cloud of white smoke again resumed his appearance again but with a heavy yet quiet pant of breathing. Exhausted somewhat and doing his best to reach for the cat with his hands out at the ready. The cat has its back faced to Sakumo and well dug inside that trashcan looking and picking at dead fish it seems. Sakumo takes his next initial step down trying to be as quiet and gentle in each new movement as possible. Any sudden sound can throw this cat off key and scram away or worse.
“crack,” Shaking his head with frustration as Sakumo has seemed to have stepped over some pieces of nearby bark or wood chips from pieces of the beams that also lay around the side of the market as well. The cat’s ears stand perfect straight up and like sonar it appears to listen for anything. Though the cat is well dived with its face plunged into the trashcan has still the possibility of reacting quite fast.
Leaning in Sakumo uses his own body weight to carry his arms and hands further closer to grab the cat. Realizing that if he picks up his foot that initial step can also cause those wood chips or barks to make yet another sound and Sakumo has no need for anymore noise at this point. With his finger tips and palms so close that he can nearly touch it. The cat turns its head around rather quickly and freaking Sakumo out from the sudden transition. Looking at the cat, Sakumo stays perfectly still as he hopes the cat doesn’t do a thing and returns to his habits of eating those dead fish fragments. Though his overall body position is quite obvious that he is still trying to catch it, the cat doesn’t buy Sakumo and reacts with its claws this time. Jumping at Sakumo who is caught way off guard, and who wants grab this cat and bear hug the crap out of it.
Having to resist the urge, Sakumo holds back and takes the cat's assault as it scratches his face up and dashes off down toward the ground fleeing the scene. Walking out from behind the side of the market and covered in fresh new cuts both small and somewhat deep and a bit exhausted from everything he did that led up to this moment.
“I am not sure how much more I can take before I grab this stupid cat and chuck it like a shuriken,” Sakumo said as his disappointment is both felt and seen from others around that he is having an awful time chasing this little girl’s cat around the harbor area.
