Personality: Shuri is very self centered, egotistical, and vain. He doesn't trust anyone but himself. Having spent so much time alone, he has come to see himself as his own best friend. In a mission, he will only save and protect people if its 100% safe and if it will make himself look good. He is a smooth talker and a brown noser most of the time, but is also very cynical and will question anything that seems stupid to him. He doesn't like physical labor and will try to pawn that off on people as well. A person could mistake him as the romantic type, but he really flirts with any cute girl in sight. He also seems to have a habit of pretending to be in love with a girl, and will move on when she returns the love. In the end, he's really just an overall heartless conman.
He can have redeeming moments with certain things. Shuri becomes very angry and fired up when seeing someone harm children. As a lover of kids, Shuri will risk his life to protect a child, even if he doesn't know them. It can also become a weakness, as he would never hurt a kid, even if his life depended on it.
Likes: Shuri likes many things, most of them being his own traits. He loves his hair and his eyes. He will on most occasions call himself beautiful. If not pertaining to himself though, he loves kids. Not in the creepy way. Kids make him smile and its only around them that he ever actually tries to be role model. Facing a troubling childhood himself, he longs to experience childhood, and gets the closest to it when making children happy. He always carries candy and is always inventing new ninjutsu and genjutsu to entertain kids.
Other than kids and himself, he does enjoy roses, cold air, and slow dancing. He is a master of the waltz, and will always try to find a reason to do such, despite those reasons being few, as waltzing is not popular amongst shinobi.
Dislikes: He hates looking bad. He will spend hours each day in his home making sure he looks absolutely stunning. Shuri has been known to actually skip class in the Academy if one single hair is out of place. Even when he has confirmed that his appearance is remarkable, he will still cast a layer of his own special Genjutsu over himself to add to it, making him utterly perfect. On more serious matters, he doesn't like ugly things like murder and blood shed, or war. For being so self centered, he doesn't like seeing people in pain, and he especially hates anyone who would harm a child. It would be the only time he truly goes out and gives 100%, and stopped caring about his appearance. Anyone who would deal pain to a child will face his fury.
Motivation: Shuri wants to become strong and wise enough to guide and protect children, and make sure no kid has to have a horrific childhood. He strongly believes childhood should be something filled with wonder and amazement, and as such spends a lot of his time thinking of ways to entertain children. Once he's become a powerful and famous shinobi, he hopes to use his money to start a travelling circus and wander the 5 nations spreading joy and amazement.
Fears: Waking up one day and finding himself to be hideous. Its a very strong fear. He shuts himself indoors when one single hair is out of place. If he were to become ugly, he would give up on life. And possibly drag others with him. To avoid this, he has gone so far as to even layer himself in a Genjutsu that makes the sight of himself look more attractive to everyone who sees him.
Shuri also strongly fears not being able to protect a child, and watching a child endure pain or worse in front of his eyes. He would never be able to live with himself if he weren't able to save a kid.
A minor fear related to this is making a kid cry. If he were to make a kid cry, Shuri would burst into tear alog with the child and beg for forgiveness.

History: Shuri was raised in a small little village outside Kusamuragakure. Away from the jungle village, it sat in an open plain where the wind flowed freely. Shuri often spent his time as a child sitting by the river, enjoying the feeling of the passing air. His parents were once shinobi, who specialized in genjutsu. They were kind, as were the rest of the community. One night when Shuri was 7, he woke up to the smell of smoke. His parents woke him up and made him hide under the bed, where he witnessed a group of rouge ninja come in and slaughter them. Shuri cried out, and the nukenin pulled him out and beat him, then threw him in a cage with other children from his village. They were led out of the village, which was burning to the ground before their eyes. There was no wind that night.
The nukenin enslaved the children and Shuri was forced to clean and mine in a cave by the hideout, then get beaten at night. This continued for 6 years, and the light in every one of their eyes died. But Shuri's eyes kept their light. He never let any of those 6 years go to waste. Every day, he gathered his chakra together, and practiced his genjutsu on the nukenin watching them. At first it was just light illusions, like making the rougue think he had seen a mouse. But in time he became able to make the rougue fall asleep and, after 6 years, he was able to make the rougue believe there was a horrifying demon behind him. The nukenin screamed and attacked the illusion, and in his panic broke the cage holding Shuri and the rest of the children. They all ran for their lives. But none of them made it as far as Shuri. Some weren't even given the chance to be recaptured.
Shuri wandered about for a couple days until he collapsed of starvation in a jungle. He awoke in Kusamuragakure where he had been taken care of by medical ninja. They gave him food and a home, and sugested to him that he join the academy. He was already 3 years late to join, most joining when they turn ten. As such he didn't graduate till he was 17. He made it by with decent grades and he didn't stand out much other than his self-centered nature. But he was the top of his class in genjutsu. Now that he's a Genin, Shuri waits for a teacher to train him to become stronger.
RP Sample: From an old site. Too sleepy to make a fresh one for a Genin level character.
- Spoiler:
Shuri took a ready position, expecting at least one of them to charge right at him. However, Reiha's request made him loosen up and scratch his head. It seems living with the Yonbi inside of her all these years has made her spoiled as well. Silly villagers...fearing a little girl. But still I admire her audacity. Shuri then watched and laughed as she licked Kizoku's neck, prompting equally hilarious horrified reactions from Kizoku and jealous reactions from Sui. "As far as I can see, if Kizoku gets my watch he'll pick Sui, and if Sui gets my watch she'll pick Kizoku. I wonder who you'll pick, Little Yonbi. Despite your rude mouth, you're definitely my favorite thus far. Here." Shuri walked over to her with his watch still spinning on his finger, and flicked her forehead with his free hand.
Shuri grabbed his watch and hung it from his belt quickly as a kunai flew at it from Sui's direction. Before he had time to think she had flown at him with immensive speed and power. Before he knew it, Shuri found himself guarding her attack with one of his satoba in his left hand. This kid...has not only took control of one tail, but also mastered the Rasengan? My satoba is unbreakable, but the sheer power is pushing me back... When kunai started to launch at him from different directions, Shuri knew he couldn't afford to be standing in one place. So Shuri blocked the incoming kunai with another satoba in his right hand while stepping back and letting the left handed satoba break, causing Sui to fly away from him. More kunai kept flying at him, and Shuri deflected them with his grave marker.
Yet while distracted by these kunai, birds, 20 of them or so, flew at him. "I'm going to take a guess and state the obvious that I shouldn't let those birds touch me." Shuri said with a slight nervous grin. With 4 satoba left, Shuri threw 3 at different birds. Even though they'd only be able to hit 3 swallows, the resulting explosions would take out about 4 each. That left only a small handful, which Shuri was able to dodge and escape the explosions with ease. He hadn't seen where his used satoba had landed, but he couldn't spend anytime looking for them. He'd be safe with only one for now.
It took Shuri only a quick moment to figure where Kizoku was. Time to take a bit of offensive. Kizoku would be providing constant support to the two Jinchuriki. From what he just saw with Sui, he wouldn't be able to escape another Rasengan so easily. And he still didn't know what to expect with Reiha. Shuri ran towards Kizoku to see the Genin had taken up a defensive position. Wise. Yet would he be able to defend against something he couldn't see? Shuri put both his hands together as if he were holding something and swung his arms a couple of feet away from Kizoku. There seemed to be no reason for the Genin to dodge, yet if he didn't he would recieve a small cut on his cheek. One down.
