The day had been more or less like any other in Shippugakure no Sato. The air was warm and wet. Humidity was very high and the storms were raging just outside the village walls. Koten Tekishijin had been seen for his request to help out Old Man Yukai, whom he had been told was in a peculiar situation, growing older each day and more fragile. He was growing more and more incapable of fishing for himself, cooking and feeding his family. Today was the day that Tekishijin was slated to go and fish for him. He had not known exactly the other times anyone else had taken it upon themselves to help out Old Man Yukai, but he did know that it could be done on more than one occasion and that it should be done more often to make sure that Old Man Yukai and his family continue to eat.
All of Tekishijin’s things were in order, as he had prepared all of his belongings the night before. It was early morning, just about to hit 3:30 am. It was always best to go fishing early in the morning. [Up early huh?] {Yes, I have a task to do.} He closed the door behind him and locked it, stretched himself out for a good five minutes and then began running to the meeting location. As he ran he wondered what this demon was even good for, little did he know he would shortly find out.
“There he is!” Old Man Yukai pointed with his cane in the direction of the path that led down to the village gates. Tekishijin waved with a smile on his face, genuinely happy that he would be able to bring joy and happiness to someone else’s life for a change -- removing his thoughts from what was going on in his own head; the back and forth with the Nibi no Kuni. [This might be interesting…] {Shut up.} He had gotten down to the area of Old Man Yukai, exchanged small talk with them, and then they were off down to the river, and into the boat.
“Okay young whipper snapper you. You’re going to get me some fish!” Yukai opened up a tackle box that was sitting in the boat. It was remarkable how his balance had seemed to get better on the water, than the land, as he stood more without the help of the cane in the boat than what he did on the land. “Inside here is my special bait. Attach it to the hooks, and use the line as you need to so that you can catch the fish. I do not care if you do this the regular fisherman way, or if you want to do it like a shinobi would for your training purposes or whatever. I have witnessed a lot of different means that have all led to the same end.” Tekishijin nodded eagerly as he listened to the wise words of Yukai.
Then he began. He took the line from the box and tied them around the hooks. He took the bait and attached it to the hooks. He didn’t just prepare five of these lines, he made ten. He quickly took his shirt of and pierced ten small holes around the bottom of the shirt that he then tied all of the lines through. “Here, help me put this back on without cutting myself,” he told Yukai, which the old man did happily. Now he was ready to go.
He looked over his shoulder at Old Man Yukai and smiled, giving him the thumbs up. “I will be right back!” He turned his head back around and vanished into the water. [Wow, this water feels amazing.] {It surely does!} [I miss the Onozuka River.] {Maybe I will come back here more often and take a swim if you stop making it so hard for me to get to sleep!} The legs of a human were much more powerful than a regular sized crab, so his thrusts through the water had covered much more distance than them, but in comparison to the giant sized Nibi no Kuni his thrusts were nothing. As he swam he had realized how odd it was he could hold his breath for a much longer period of time than before the Nibi no Kuni had been sealed into him. Another thing that had struck him as odd was the bubbles that foamed at the mouth when he seemed to be running out of oxygen.
The swim had taken only ten minutes, a minute per fish, and he had come up out of the water and back onto the boat with a dress of sorts of fish that now flopped all over the place gasping for air. Old Man Yukai looked down at Tekishijin and smiled a grateful smile.
