Village News
The islands in Ocean Country have been celebrating the arrival of the next Umikage, Saizo. The long bridge leading to SHIPPUUGAKURE NO SATO has been closed for outsiders because they wish to celebrate this moment with Ocean Country natives only.
As usual, the Storm Country has been hosting the Asgard Games to welcome their Kanetsukage, Cornelia. It's a double special occasion because Cornelia is also the first female Kanetsukage. She has been picked for her courage, loyalty and outstanding power by the BOUFUUGAKURE NO SATO elders.
Not only that, but the Cherry Blossom Country has become relieved as well. It seems that everyone is slowly picking up after the war now. KUSAMURAGAKURE NO SATO proudly presented their new Sakurakage, Altair.
TSUKIGAKURE NO SATO is still thriving on the merchants coming in and out. They have not experienced anything special lately. Their wealth has remained the same as they were not forced to invest into shinobi unlike the others.
On the cold isles of the Blizzard Country, HYOUGAGAKURE NO SATO has still refused to create a free traveling policy. Some habits never change. To protect their traditions, they have even warned outsiders to not interfere with their matters.
Now that everyone is picking up again, who will come out on top?

During the festival commemorating the village’s many war victories, named Victories Day in the Hidden Glacier, Isais Neomae allowed our hero Yuumaru Senju to take a break from his harsh training with him. It was well deserved, as Yuumaru had been putting all his effort into training with the monster of the Hidden Glacier. Oddly enough, Yuumaru did not want to skip training. There was something about training and battling and really pouring his heart out that made Yuumaru happy. Or did it? Or maybe it was just away to cope with his negative thoughts. With his problems. When Yuumaru argued to his sensei that he was still training no matter what, Isais reminded him that he must respect the village’s heroes’ holiday by taking a rest day. Isais then left to preside over the village celebrations.

Everyone in the Hidden Glacier was celebrating except for the lone figure now heading for the village gate. It was a sore sight that no one seemed to pay attention to, as they were all heading towards the center main plaza of the Shichiyou Royal Third Street, where the majority of the celebrations took place. Yuumaru could not put his finger to what was happening to him. A feeling of helplessness? Maybe a feeling of despair on the side? No… it was a feeling he was all too familiar with. A feeling of loneliness. The festivities reminded him of the time when Yoshi rescued him from villains during the Hidden Jungle Foundation Day, also more commonly known in his home village as the Jungle Festival. Our hero also recalled the brief time they had spent together in the Jungle Theater. They were together for a short time but they had shared a lot with each other. Yuumaru wondered where Yoshi was. Was she safe? What was she doing at this time? Maybe she’s with friends of her own. Maybe she had broken her bonds with our hero. No, she would never! She’s my friend.

As Yuumaru continued to walk towards the gate of the Hidden Glacier, he passed the Royal Hospital, the hospital founded by the Shichiyou dynasty to house infirm Hidden Glacier citizens and shinobi alike. The hospital reminded our hero of yet another friend: Yuri. It seemed such a long time ago that they had met and shared memories together. It seemed such a long time ago when he had cried on her shoulders. When she had hugged him. When she had kissed him. But even now, as seconds pass by, our hero’s Yuri Senses were getting weaker and weaker, and his link with Jiraiya was becoming very rusty. And it seemed that Yuumaru’s goodbye of “Looks like we aren’t going to see each other for a while” was coming true, perhaps too true. Maybe Yuri-chan had also found new friends of her own. Maybe she too, had broken her bonds with our hero. No, she would never! She’s my friend.

Our hero then thought of all the other friends he had made. Umeko, the Hidden Jungle ANBU who had saved his skin many a time. Yuumaru wondered where she was? Taeko-kun, the young boy whom our hero had trained and was now going to school in the ninja arts at the Hidden Jungle Academy. I wonder how he’s doing? Tomoko, the mysterious genin that our hero had met in Hyouga and shared his very first theater experience with. Is she alright right now? I wonder what they’re thinking right now. I wonder if they think about me. If they remember me. Maybe they have moved on. Maybe they had forgotten about the memories they shared with our hero. No, they would never! They’re my friends!

A guard stood from his chair and apprehended our hero. “Where the hell do you think you’re going, boy? It’s the Victories Day! Where is your mother?” The guard smirked at Yuumaru. The smirk reminded him of the smirk his bullies had made when they almost beat him up before Yoshi stopped them. His smirk reminded him of the smirks of his Academy classmates when he couldn’t do even a basic Wood Style jutsu, besides being a grandson of the legendary Senju Daiki, the former head of the Senju Clan and hero of the Hidden Jungle. His smirk reminded him of the rogue ninja that murdered Kyoko-chan, his dear friend, in cold blood. Kyoko… Is she doing alright? Does she still remember me?

Where was she now?

Oh yes, our hero remembered now. A vision of a beautiful girl laying on his arms, blood dripping from her pierced abdomen, her chest dropping back and forth in rapid intensity as she gasped for breath in futility. And then her breathing would go slower, and she would get close, and whisper, “My hero…”

The guard was later found by Hyouga ninjas, unconscious and badly beaten, his bones having been broken. Hero…

Maybe safest way… maybe the way to avoid all pain, all heartbreak… was to just break the bonds that took a lot of work to form. Maybe that was the only way to experience true happiness. But Yuumaru knew that there was no statement more false than that. And he would never break the bond that he formed with his friends, especially Kyoko… But wasn’t it already broken? I mean, she’s… she’s… Our hero clenched his fists tightly. But then, he eventually lessened his grip. Until he finally let go. Unbeknownst to our hero, the mark that Ashura had imprinted on his right palm, called the Savior’s Mark, was becoming fainter and fainter.

“Whatever you do, do not go into the Frozen Tundra. Blizzards would freeze you before you even step twice. Plus the terrain is very unstable, and you could easily fall into the ice.” Yuumaru remembered the female escort that isais assigned to him to guide him into his motel during his very first meeting with his sensei Isais. Sounds of crunching snow could be heard as a lone figure walked alone the wide expanse of the tundra. Ice the size of fingernails pelted him, and the cold was almost unbearable. But Isais forgot one thing about Yuumaru: he was a Senju, and the successor of Ashura. He would never succumb to a weak impediment such as this.

Yuumaru was in a daze. He did not know why he was doing this. Why he was walking in the dreaded Frozen Tundra, all alone. He does not even feel the cold. He does not feel the ice pelting him. He does not even notice when a pair of hunters walked by him, offering to escort him back to the village and also their food from the hunt and drink. But as Yuumaru walked on by, eyes staring towards the far distance, the hunters just shrugged and shook it off as hypothermic hallucinations. Besides, what would a 16 year old boy doing so far out into the Frozen Tundra at this time of all times, Victories Day? The hunters went home excitedly to prepare the food they had hunted for their individual families.

Unbeknownst to our hero, it has been two hours since he left the village. He was now very, very far from any safe place, and you could say that he was deep into the wilderness. Something… something was leading him on. As if there was something that lies in his destination. He suddenly heard a familiar voice inside his head. it was Jiraiya-sensei’s voice. He could not make out what he was saying--er, shouting? Why? Why couldn’t he make it out? But it was so loud…

A moment later, another voice was ringing in his ears, and like last time, he could not decipher what the voice was saying. This time, he knew it was Ashura, his predecessor. Our hero did not even have enough energy to cover his ears with his arms; Ashura’s voice seemed so loud! But for some reason, our hero could not understand even a single word that he was saying. Our hero closed his eyes in resignation. Finally, the voice disappeared. When our hero opened his eyes once again, half-dazed, but not feeling the extremely low temperature, he saw that he was at near the edge of solid ice, and dark blue, freezing water lay just a few feet from where he was standing. Without warning, in front of him, about fifteen feet away, a sword appeared from underwater, and a second later, a woman, the wielder, appeared from underwater, dressed in black and white geisha clothes, her face halfway black and white, with the colors reversed with the colors of her garment. Her cheeks were painted with dots on each side that were the opposite of the paint background they were surrounded with. Her right hand, the one holding the sword, was still held up high as she approached our muddled hero, not knowing what to make of the sight he was beholding and not knowing how to react.

Suddenly, the woman struck the sword into the ice, and at the moment the sword got in contact with the snow, she vanished into thin air.
